Love the process

“The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination.”

Carl R Rogers

Passion myths

Do you feel like you are stuck in your career, or are you struggling to figure out where you are headed?

Not all of us are lucky enough to know exactly what we are passionate about.

“Following your passion” has recently come to light as not the best advice.  It can be confusing and misleading, particularly to young people as they get frustrated by thinking they should be clear on their passion and that they should love every second of work.

In reality, it is something that is uncovered over time through trying new things to find what resonates, and then lots of hard work to develop a sense of mastery.

Instead of getting hung up on the idea that you should have a guiding passion, look for clues into what you could be passionate about…

Pay attention to the activities, ideas, and fields which hook you. Where do you get lost in a flow state and lose sense of time? That is a sign you’re on the right track.

Process not results

Focus on the process, not the results. Have a think about this. Where in the past have you loved the process more than the finished results?

This is where true fulfilment comes from. Not chasing external results, but rather a genuine love of the process.

Loving a process is continuous and sustainable. If you attach yourself too much to results, what happens after you get the results? But if you love the process you can keep going through good times and bad.

The results will naturally follow.
