Creative or quantitative

Are we getting too carried away with the ‘quantitative’ side of things in todays data-driven algorithmic world, at the expense of ‘creativity’?

Quote to ponder:

“What’s taught is it’s about trade offs. Now, the problem is that new way of doing it requires creativity.

And in a world where everything, including the practice of economics and the practice of business has become more quantitative and we need an algorithm for doing that.

We actually don’t teach creativity to people in business.

So while you may think it should be second nature, each minute, each year of your training takes you further and further away from that intuitively obvious point, to a point that says ‘no, I am decision maker, I make trade offs, I use analysis’.

And that’s one of the reasons why you have a crisis of innovation in the big companies in the world.

Because they are busily trying to analyze their way to something new, which you can’t do.”
