I have found that recently I have become a bit of a content junkie… Spending all my free time reading books and listening to audiobooks and podcasts. This is especially true during these COVID pandemic times where I have more time at home.
I can absorb all the amazing content in the world, but what good is it if I don’t put it to use?
The challenge is to move from input (passive) to output (creative). This takes effort and work. It’s easy to be passive, but often you have nothing to show for it.
I think mornings work best for this creative work. I’m now making the effort to structure my days as follows:
- Morning: output
- Afternoon: input
I find the afternoon input simmers in the subconcious overnight. New connections are made, and then the creative output flows the next morning.
Journaling your reflections in the evening also helps to make sense of things.
It’s important to strike a balance. Open your mind up to new ideas and learnings (input), but make sure you put it all to good use through some kind of creative output.
