Do you deserve what you want?

“To get what you want, you have to deserve what you want. The world is not yet a crazy enough place to reward a whole bunch of undeserving people.”

Charlie Munger

We always want what we don’t have. We dream, but we don’t always make a solid plan to move towards that dream. We aren’t willing to do the hard work to get what we want. So really we don’t deserve what we want.

Ever since the pandemic first hit and my world got turned upside down, I have been trying to carve out this alternative path as a thinker, writer, and coach in this personal development space. I hope to inspire and support others to grow so that they can thrive in a world of possibility.

I am learning the hard way that it is not going to happen by itself. There are no quick fixes or hacks to immediate success. You have to do the time. How can I get better at writing if I don’t have a daily writing practice? How can I get better ideas if I don’t make more time to read and think?

We are all guilty of this. What are the things that you should be making time for?

It is easy for life to get in the way. To get caught up in the daily mundane of work, responsibilities and digital distraction. If we are not taking the time to work towards those dreams, do we deserve what we want? How can we find success if we can’t be bothered investing the time to grow?

After all, we live in the perfect time to reinvent ourselves with today’s technology.

  • It easier than ever and cheaper to learn new skills – books and online courses.
  • We are connected online – find your community and serve them.
  • Low entry barriers – you can build your website cheaply in a matter of minutes.

The question is, are you using that technology to move toward or away from your goals? The fulfilling goals that give life a sense of meaning and purpose.

I am finding it a constant battle. The key is to hang in there, keep persisting and not get too hard on yourself. There will be ups and downs, but as long as overall, we are moving forward. And if we do experience a failure, while challenging at the time, those moments are a great teacher which leads to growth.

You know what you need to do. Do you deserve it?

Reflection

  • I am going to get clear on the daily practices required to move forward on my goals.
  • I commit to doing the work of completing those daily practices.
  • What will it cost me if I don’t?
