You become what you surround yourself with

Is your environment bringing out the best in you?

It’s important to be aware of what and who you are surrounding yourself with. It could be impacting your thoughts and performance in more ways than you think.

You know that optimistic feeling when you start a new position at work. You think, “I am going to change things up and have a massive impact here”, but then a couple of months later, you find yourself becoming more like the existing environment. Culture is powerful.

Common wisdom says we become the people we spend the most time with. I’m not sure how true this is, but those around us do deeply influence us. It’s worth considering our inputs.

  • What conversations are you regularly having?
  • What beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours are you exposing yourself to?
  • What books, podcasts, social media, and video are you consuming?

Are they aligned with your goals of who you want to become?

Are they setting you up for future success? Or are they limiting your potential?

You have the power to influence your inputs. Why not use them to your advantage.

Reflection

  • I will choose my inputs wisely.
