The Limits of our vision

“Every man takes the limits of his own field of vision for the limits of the world.”

Arthur Schopenhauer

We all have a vision for ourselves. Maybe we haven’t articulated it, but we live it subconsciously through our habits and actions. We are on a path somewhere. And where we go will be aligned with this vision.

Is this vision aligned with our potential? Or are we holding parts of ourselves back?

We may have limiting beliefs and self-doubts which keep us from flying too high. We may feel like an imposter, maybe feel the pull of perfectionism, or perhaps think that we don’t deserve any better.

This internal wall restricts our capability, and we cannot see what is possible beyond. Strangely, we cling to these limiting beliefs as they may have served us for some time by keeping us safe. Maybe the imposter syndrome protects us from standing up and being shot down, the perfectionism gives us an excuse for our limited creative output, and we think since we don’t deserve any better, we have less to lose.

But we still feel that pull for something greater. At some point, we need to heed the call to adventure.

We can take inspiration from others.

Often we can’t even imagine what is beyond our limited field of vision until one day, the possibility reveals itself through someone else dancing to a different tune. Suddenly we can see what is possible, and we have been living behind a false barrier.

What is the one limiting belief, if removed, that would make the most impact on your life?
