#22 – 23 Sep 2022
Hello friends,
Thanks again for being here!
Here’s an insight, a question, and a quote I reflected on over the last week.
💡 Glitter and Glue
I heard Lauren McGoodwin of Career Contessa speaking at an event this week.
She mentioned the “Glitter and Glue” approach to business, which she described as applying the 80/20 rule to prioritising those less glamorous parts of the business.
Often we get carried away on “glitter” parts of our business, e.g. showing our face on social media, podcast interviews, or attending fancy events.
But the reality is that it’s usually the “glue” that holds things together in our business. This could be developing our products or services, improving sales and marketing or developing our employees.
It feels fun to work on the glitter, but the glue is what moves the needle forward in our work.
In my own example, I got carried away posting random personal development content on social media (glitter) without first figuring out my service offering (glue). I was just wasting time with no real direction. It felt good and like I was busy moving forward, but I wasn’t really. I needed to re-set with a laser focus on my objective.
Prioritise the “glue” for better results.
❔ Where to start
We have big dreams, which is exciting, but the real challenge is committing to take action towards those dreams.
Big ideas can be intimidating.
It’s scary to break out of our comfort zone.
But it’s also exhilarating.
However, that excitement often soon diminishes once we try to start. Where do we start? It’s overwhelming, isn’t it? As there are a million micro steps between us and that dream.
Well, there is no correct answer here, but the important thing is that you actually do start.
Do something. Anything. Start small and build some momentum.
And so I ask you:
Where do you feel most called to start?
Start there.
P.S. If you’re still feeling stuck… Coaching can help separate the wheat from the chaff. It’s excellent for narrowing in on a clear, exciting goal and developing some action steps to get there.

💬 A Quote to Ponder – Your competitive advantage
“People that are locked into something that comes to them naturally have such a competitive advantage over people who are forcing something they don’t have.”
Gary Vaynerchuck
Don’t force something you aren’t. You can’t hold up the act forever, and you will just burn out. Follow what you already have. Your strengths give you a natural advantage.
Cheers!
