“To bring health to a system, connect it to more of itself.”
Margaret Wheatley

It’s easy to forget we are all part of the same living and breathing system. During these troubling times we can feel more divided than connected.
In the companies where we work, people selfishly compete against each other and forget that we are all part of the same company. Shouldn’t our goals be aligned? What is good for the individual may not necessarily be good for the organisation, and what is good for the organisation may not be good for the individual.
By taking a step back we can see that we are all part of the same system. The system is only as healthy as its weakest point. Imagine if your internal organs were competing against each other and undermining with intent to destroy, the whole body would collapse. So why do we do this in our organisations?
Connection is what brings us together and allows us to be more empathetic. It helps us to see others viewpoints and understand how they think. Often when we connect and seek to understand, we realise that the “others” aren’t so bad after all.
Reflection
Try to take the big picture view and realise that we are all in this together.
- How have you been selfishly been pushing your own agenda without consideration of others?
- What could you do to better connect with those around you?
