“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”
Jim Rohn
Be mindful of what is influencing your thinking during these challenging times.
It’s easy to get sidetracked down a path or fear reading news or social media for eight hours a day, or maybe settling into binge-watching whole seasons of TV shows on Netflix.
While it’s not necessarily a bad thing to do the above now and then, it’s essential to check in regularly and ask are these behaviours are aligned with my values and goals.
Are they helping or hindering my progress?
Just because we are locked down doesn’t mean we can find those five influential people in our lives who we are becoming the average of. Who have you been connecting with on social media or video chat? What podcasts have you frequently listened to over the last month? What blogs or news have you read?
Are you comfortable with being the average of these sources?
Be aware that the things you surround yourself with are influencing who you are becoming.
Choose them wisely.
Reflection
- What content am I absorbing?
- Is it aligned with the kind of person I want to become?
- How can I be mindful of my choices and the long-term impacts of the day-to-day?
