“You have everything needed for the extravagant journey that is your life.”

Carlos Castaneda

We often focus on what we don’t have. Thinking we need more, more, more.

But do we really need more?

I know I can fall into the trap of thinking I need to learn more before starting something – more books, more courses, and more podcasts. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing (there could be worse habits than wanting to learn), it can get in the way of the bigger goals I am trying to achieve – what’s the point of all this “learning” if it doesn’t get put to use?

In many cases, we already have baseline knowledge, so wouldn’t it be better just to start doing the real thing and then learn and adapt on the fly?

We already have great strengths that can set us up for success on our journey.

For instance, that love of learning strength can be adapted from passive learning like reading to active learning from the experience of doing something. For example:

  • Instead of listening to podcasts on business, start the business.
  • Instead of reading blogs on finding your passion, experiment with new things.
  • Instead of reading endless books on parenting, try a new routine and follow what works.
  • Instead of doing that course on long-distance running, get out there and start running.
  • Instead of watching videos on being productive, turn your smartphone off and do the work.

While it is great to have resources for a foundation and inspiration, you cannot beat the growth that comes from the act of doing.

Remember, we already have everything we need to start. There is no need to overcomplicate it.

What strengths could you unlock to help you on your journey?
